Vivo to first come up with in-display fingerprint sensor

Technology never failed to woo back the people. Since decades, the evolution is thriving and new inventions steps into the universe at a wicked fast rate. The in-display or under-display fingerprint sensor is one such innovation embellishing the customers.
The Chinese smartphone maker Vivo is alleged to collaborate with a company called Synaptics to come up with the first smartphone casting in-display fingerprint sensor. Earlier the smartphone is rumoured to partner with Qualcomm for this project. The fingerprint authentication will be processed with the help of the sensor placed between the glass and display instead of the one that was found in the counterpart. The fingerprint sensor is alleged to work only under the OLED displays. The fingerprint sensor is said to work with the help of ultrasonic sensors. The in-display sensor is said to be water and dust resistant. The project ideas were glimpsed by Qualcomm in 2016 at the CES event.

Working

The fingerprint sensor works under the principle of the piezoelectric effect. When the virtual button is pressed at the destined area, the mechanical stress exerted on the OLED panel ultrasonic waves are generated and a 3D map of the fingerprint is processed by the software. This type is said to be more protective than its predecessor since there are fewer chances of duplicating the fingerprint.
Samsung and Apple were highly expected to launch smartphones with the in-display fingerprint sensor, but they failed in the attempt. Vivo is expected to outcome with this technology in its future lineup. This biometric recognition could face hiccups at first since it is at its initial stage of development, but surely in future, it will be unanimous in all smartphones.
